The definition of a
backpacker has changed in the UK & Europe over the years. It
now often defines someone who travels (mostly in a gap year) with a
rucsac to distant countries, usually travelling by plane, train or
bus & using cheap hostels for accommodation.
In the USA, where the term originates, backpacking is an activity
that involves walking & lightweight camping in mountain or
wilderness areas, carrying everything you need on your back such as
tent, sleeping bag, stove, food etc. This is the type of
backpacking we do. |
