Monday: Caught 10.15am
ferry after a very good coffee in the Backpackers café. The ferry fare is
£5 each way. Began walking 11.00am from Inverie. After various stops went
up Gleann Meadal, stopping for lunch round the corner from the bothy which
is being renovated.
At the top of the col we began a steep ascent up Meall Buidhe 946 metres,
3102.88 feet. This was very tough going with a full pack, being over steep,
rocky ground. The packs were quite heavy having enough food in to last till
Friday morning. Left the packs on a col and were up the Munro just after 6.30pm.
Pitched in corrie below Meall Buidhe at 858988, having a good nights sleep.
Tuesday: began walking at 11.00am over col towards Bealach Ile Corrie.
We planned to pitch on Barrisdale Bay, which turned out to be a wonderful
spot complete with a bothy , a campsite and a flushing, soon to be blocked
toilet.. It was £2 in the bothy and 50 pence to camp, money in an honesty
box. Saw no one from just outside Inverie on Monday until 2.30pm Tuesday.
Wednesday: 9.35am, began walking with day packs, towards the sheilings
on Alt Coire Dhorrcail with the intention of doing Ladhar Bhienn 1010 metres,
3312.8 feet. There was very little cloud and lots of sunshine; had a break
near the sheilings, lunch circa 12.30am, somewhere on Druim Choire Odhair,
arriving at the top circa 2.30pm. The weather was still good, but had clouded
over slightly. Just before the top, circa 1.20pm, we met some people who were
staying on the campsite. They had set out at 7.50am. This suggested that we
had another 5 hours of walking to do. The ridge at the top was very narrow
and needed care as the snow was melting.
Thursday: Started back to Inverie. We had given thought to cutting
across country, but common sense prevailed. It began to rain intermittently
circa 3.00pm. Camped on the beach near some other tents.

The village hall, Inverie. This
village has the most
remote pub in Britain. Everything is delivered
by boat as there is no direct road access.

You know you are going somewhere
wild when there are warning signs up telling you just that!

The view of Ladhar Bhienn, looking
up Alt Coire Dhorrcail. This mountain is 1010 metres high and is started from
sea level. It would be quite difficult to do the whole ridge in bad weather
as the ridge coming up from Barrisdale Bay is narrow.
