Lake District - Treasure Hunt
8-10 April 2005

(Photos:Bryan Crick)

The Treasure Hunt was held at Greenhill farm, Hesket Newmarket. The field was very good but cut up very badly just with walking on it, so we had lots of mud everywhere.
The North East members present were in 3 teams.
Carl Scarth and his girl friend Helen. (won 3rd prize in 'B' class)
Les Gardener, Terry Coulson & his grandson Scott. (came second in 'C' class)
John Douglas and I.
Friday night was very cold and windy, Saturday started out fine with a very strong cold wind, but soon it started raining and continued to do so most of the day. As we got higher of course the rain changed to sleet and a mist came down over the tops. With the conditions being not too good Terry decided to stick to the 'C' clues as he felt it would be too dangerous for young Scott to go higher. We all returned to the camp site rather than chance it over the tops, the upside of that was it allowed another trip to The Crown which brewed it's own real ales. Sunday was a lot warmer drier but still very windy. The clues were diabolical and very hard to decipher as usual. One 'B' clue was "a past film star who was not noted for being handsome", it turned out to be the letters 'ET' marked on posts around a disused mine shaft!  (Bryan Crick)
