The
weekend of 6 July saw the last minute decision of Carl Scarth and
Graeme Tutin to head off to Howtown. The cars were left early Friday
evening and after a couple of hours of damp walking uphill found us
pitching near the top of The Knott. Saturday morning came, still
raining so the quick decision was made to have another cup of tea
and a lie in to see if the weather improved. Minutes later we were
disturbed by dozens of people trekking past the door. It was
mountain marathon weekend and we had managed to pitch twenty feet
off the route! We finally emerged to tackle the majority of the
Kentmere Horseshoe route, finally pitching way above Blea Water.
Sunday saw glorious sunshine and a great route back to Howtown back
over The Knott, past Angle Tarn and Beda Fell.
