The weather forecast for
the Easter weekend was not encouraging, but we were not put off. On Good
Friday we caught the ferry from Mallaig to Inverie. The weather had been
so bad that there was some doubts about the ferry running, but as the
Knoydart peninsula depends on the ferry for supplies the weather has to
be bad for it to be cancelled. After arriving at Inverie we caught the
Lophelia down the coast to the Torr Cruinn pier. This saved a long walk
in over the Mam Meadail pass and left us with more energy fort he
Saturday walk. We camped near the Sourlies bothy.
The Saturday began with some good weather and we began our attempt on
Sgurr Na Ciche by going up the path that follows the Finiskaig river.
This then turns up the Allt Coire Na Ciche. At about the 800 metre mark
we decided that it would not be wise to attempt SgurrNa Ciche because of
the icy conditions and we were also losing the good weather we had
enjoyed. We went back down the Druim a Ghoritein ridge to a very
convivial evening in the bothy. Some entertainment was provided by some
musicians who had carried their violin and a guitar in from Glenfinnan.
On the Sunday night they played in the Forge at Inverie, reputedly
Britain's remotest pub. |
